On the brisk morning of Dec. 11, the Georgia Organics Farm to School team led a 101 Farm to School workshop at Morgan County Charter School. Georgia Organics staff members taught Morgan County School System educators new ways to integrate farm to school principles and school gardening into their curriculum lessons. Check out a few highlights below and learn more about Morgan County Charter School’s garden.
Morgan County Charter System STEAM Coordinator, Ashley Potter, utilizes the county’s school gardens to make integrated lessons come alive. Potter supports K-5 educators in teaching in the gardens and providing tools for lessons. Students track weather and other data by using thermometers, rain gauges, and sun dials set up around the garden.
Morgan Primary School teamed up with an Eagle Scout to build a turtle and goldfish sanctuary where students can learn about ecosystems and habitats.
Georgia Organics Teacher Trainer, Jenna Mobley, discussed how Morgan County educators can connect language arts and writing in the garden.
