Beginning in June, Georgia Food Oasis has hosted monthly virtual meet-ups for network communities to connect with their peers, share news and information, and hear first-hand the hardships and successes that come with building and sustaining local food coalitions. First, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for a Livable Future presented an overview of what a food policy council does and offered several examples of food policy councils that exist across the United States. In July and August we heard from GFO Network peers Healthy Savannah and Walton Wellness, respectively, who shared their story and chronicled the journey from grassroots initiatives to formal organizations.
