Georgia Organics is hosting a Buyer Farm Tour & Organic Growers Workshop on Monday, November 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Savannah, GA. This exciting 3-part networking and educational workshop will take place at Gannon Organics, a sustainable, diversified, and transitioning to Organic farm serving the local Savannah community.
Part 1: Due to limited parking on-site at the farm, attendees will meet at the Walmart Supercenter (1955 E Montgomery Cross Rd, Savannah, GA 31406) and be shuttled to Gannon Organics (9520 Ferguson Ave, Savannah, GA 31406). Brendan Gannon, farm owner, will give an in-depth walking farm tour of his operation.
Note: Please arrive between 9:45-10am at the Walmart parking lot. Georgia Organics staff will be ordering Ubers to shuttle attendees to the farm.
Part 2: Attendees will learn more about USDA Organic Certification and the Organic transition process from Lydia Hsu, a Georgia Organics Farmer Services Coordinator. Buyers and sellers alike will learn about the environmental and economic benefits of certification.
Part 3: Over lunch catered by Farmer Champion Wildflower Café, Kayla Williams, Georgia Organics Farmer Champion Senior Coordinator, will facilitate a networking conversation between buyers and sellers focused on wholesale markets, and discuss the importance of Organic Certification to buyers. Attendees will have the opportunity to make connections and build relationships across the Savannah local food community.
Georgia Organics hopes that this workshop will support further community-building efforts among small to medium sized diversified farmers in and around Savannah/SE Georgia, create new buying and selling connections across a variety of businesses, and build knowledge around Organic Certification and the Organic transition process.
Farmer attendees (1 farmer per farm) will receive free post-harvest supplies for participating in the full day of activities for the Buyer Farm Tour & Organic Growers Workshop. Supplies will include 32 oz ice packs, BioBag 32 gallon liners, and BioBag regular shopper bags. Supplies are limited and are available on a first come first serve basis for the first 20 farms that register for the workshop.
