Atlanta Agritecture Workshop 2015
September 18, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - September 19, 2015 @ 8:00 pm
The City of Atlanta in partnership with Georgia Tech College of Architecture, The Association for Vertical Farming, Invest Atlanta, Blue Planet Consulting, and Perkins + Will, is hosting an integrated design workshop in Atlanta on September 18-19, 2015.
The Association for Vertical Farming has successfully held similar events at Columbia University in the City of New York and at the Historic Fifth Street School in Las Vegas. The event will include a keynote talk from vertical farming pioneer, Dr. Dickson Despommier.
The City of Atlanta is currently considering the development of urban farms around the Atlanta BeltLine Westside. The city can benefit economically, socially, and environmentally from a year-around urban farm located at this impoverished area.
From the economic perspective, urban farms increase economic prosperity by creating jobs and developing new local industries; from an environmental perspective, urban farms improve the local environments by removing vacant lots and returning green landscapes to city neighborhoods; from a social perspective, urban farms improve the health and safety of residents by providing local healthy food and greater access to well-maintained green spaces and it nurtures a sense of community by building social capital and organizational capacity.
