In-depth Introduction to Organic Farming and Gardening Course
September 7, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Are you drawn to beautiful landscapes, meaningful work, and healthy living? Are you inspired by nature and all of its little miracles? Do you daydream about being outside and being a part of creative nature? Do you think about ways to enrich your life and your community? If any or all of these questions sound like you then you have an interest in the core of sustainable growing! Whether you are seeking to become an organic farmer or just wanting to learn how to grow delicious, nutritious, organic vegetables in your garden for you and your family, then Cane Creek Farm’s intensive organic farming and gardening course is your answer!
Come join Lynn Pugh and other beginning farmers and gardeners for seven educational and peaceful Saturdays at Cane Creek Farm. Lynn is an experienced teacher and farmer whose farm will be featured in EMC’s Georgia Magazine’s article on sustainable farming this August. She sells her sustainable produce through a successful CSA and online farmers market. She has a degree in Biology, an MS degree in Plant Pathology, and an Ed.S degree in Curriculum Development. In this course, she will cover the fundamentals of organic growing such as soils, plant biology, insects, disease and weed control, composting, crop management, marketing and certification in lively and interactive ways with plenty of hands on activities woven throughout the day. Students will participate in field trips to other farms, educational videos, and plenty of practical farm tasks. There couldn’t be a better classroom than at this fully operational and scenic farm with the accomplished farmer herself!
This popular course is based on Georgia Organics “Fundamentals of Organic Farming and Gardening” which is a curriculum Lynn helped to develop and then later revise. Homemade muffins and freshly brewed coffee will be available Saturday morning and a delicious vegetarian lunch of fresh produce grown on the farm will be served Saturday around noon. Information about Cane Creek Farm including location and directions can be viewed at www.canecreekfarm.net.
In order to receive the most benefit from this educational course, participants should be in good physical condition and willing to learn by doing. No prior knowledge or experience in growing is required.
Classes are always 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and are held on the following dates:
