In our second intern spotlight, we asked Diana Beach about her interest in working with our farm to school team this summer.
Why did you want to intern with Georgia Organics?
I have always loved playing in the dirt, planting in the garden, working with kids and cooking delicious food. From these passions, I developed an interest in where our food comes from. This has led me down a path at Georgia State University to become a Registered Dietitian. I’ve been working with kids for years and I always get sad when I hear them say that they think food only comes from the grocery store.
I was really excited to hear about the farm to school internship at Georgia Organics because I want to be part of this movement and change kids outlook on food from a young age.
What are you working on while interning with Georgia Organics?
I will be focusing mainly on the Golden Radish Award. I will be going through applications and learning about district wide farm to school programming throughout Georgia. It is really exciting and inspiring to see the progress of farm to school programs within Georgia.
What is your spirit vegetable and why?
Broccoli! Not only is this my number one favorite vegetable, it is also versatile and flexible in the ways you can use it. It will adapt to the dishes that it is used in, just as I adapt to the environment that I am in. “Change the way things are. The seed may seem small and insignificant, but it’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become. -The Lorax.” I am here to make a positive difference in the world around me.
