Please note: This is not intended for landowners interested in utility-scale solar. It is focused on small-scale solar that can be integrated into an existing agricultural operation and help supplement on-site energy needs of farms.

Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Grant Program Webinar

Through March 29, 2024, the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) is working with the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service to offer $7.1 million in competitive grant funding to Georgia projects designed to build resilience within local and regional food systems, fostering economic growth and creating new opportunities for Georgia's farmers and food producers.  

The grants are being offered under the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Grant Program. Grants offered through the RFSI Program will support various initiatives aimed at improving the capacity and infrastructure involved in processing, storing, and distributing locally and regionally produced food. Priority will be given to projects involving dairy, grains, fruits, vegetables, dry beans, and aquaculture, as well as those submitted by farmer- and worker-owned enterprises and cooperatives. 

Join us on Tues., Mar. 18 at 2 p.m. for a grant review with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. During this time Matthew Kulinski will walk potential applicants through the grant process and answer any lingering questions.  Registration is free and required to attend.

Winter Farmer Series 4: H-2A Employment and Labor Management Practices (Farmer Field Day)

Georgia Organics is hosting an H-2A Employee and Labor Management Practices Farmer Field Day (FFD) on Monday, Mar. 11, 2024 at Jenny Jack Farm in Pine Mountain, GA. Join us from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a day spent on a diversified, Certified Naturally Grown farm, learn and discuss labor management considerations, and learn about the H-2A employee program from Marcus Kingsley, VP of Growth at másLabor, an organization that facilitates farms signing up for the program. 

This Farmer Field Day will be in two segments. First, Jenny and Chris, owners and operators of Jenny Jack Farm, will guide participants through a one-hour walking farm tour where they will highlight their growing methods, on-farm market, and business relationships with nearby farms.  They’ll cover their experience with managing employees and how the farm set up facilitates or hinders their efforts. They’ll also discuss their farm journey with farm workers and where they are today. Afterward, Marcus Kingsley will lead a workshop engaging farmers in the specifics of applying to the H-2A employee program in Georgia where he will review the basics of the H-2A program, its requirements, and what to expect with the ever-changing political landscape.

Winter Farmer Series 3: Climate Smart Grazing & Pasture Management (Farmer Field Day)

Georgia Organics will host a Farmer Field Day: Climate Smart Grazing & Pasture Management on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Deep Grass Graziers in Fitzgerald, GA. Deep Grass Graziers raises grass fed and finished beef on land that the family has farmed for four generations. 

This field day is aimed at ranchers who want to learn more about rotational grazing, bale grazing, and forage/pasture management. Dan Glenn, owner/operator of Deep Grass Graziers, will be on hand to discuss grazing strategies, forage management and business and marketing tips for grassfed beef. Philip Brown, state grazing specialist for NRCS will provide details on forage management and cover the NRCS Bale/Swath grazing initiative. We will finish the field day with a farm tour, where attendees can get a visual of all principles discussed in the presentations.

During the educational session, attendees will learn from Augusta Locally Grown and The Common Market Southeast about accessing local Organic markets, consumer buying trends, regional buying needs, values-based procurement, and benefits of wholesale selling for diverse, local producers.

Farmer Field Day: Small Engine Repair Workshop

Georgia Organics will host a Farmer Field Day (FFD) on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at 9:30 AM that will take place at Bread & Butter Farms in Sparta, GA. Bread & Butter Farms is a Certified Organic farm supplemented by a large-scale mushroom operation, an on-site restaurant, an online shop, and cured meats that stem from a farm-to-table business model. 

This field day is aimed at farmers who want to learn more about diversifying and expanding their business model and gain a working knowledge of small engine service and outdoor power equipment repair. Attendees will learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot the common problems associated with lawnmowers, tillers, weed eaters, and chainsaws.

The Farmer Champion campaign celebrates chefs and their businesses who source from Georgia producers and re-invest in our local food economy, day in and day out.

From Friday, Sept. 16-Friday, Sept. 23, Georgia Organics hosts the second annual Farmer Champion Week!

Participating Farmer Champion chefs and their businesses will prepare incredible seasonal dishes only available during Farmer Champion Week. Dishes will feature this year’s starring ingredients: okra and peppers, with a spotlight on the growers, livestock farmers, and other Georgia producers responsible for your meal.

These #farmerchampionweek dishes are not to be missed. Dishes include: Curried Okra and Goat Cheese Danish, Pepperonata Croque Monsieur, and Chicken Fried Okra with Agrodolce Pimentons and basil aioli.
